The late Italian dictator Benito Mussolini’s granddaughter Alessandra Mussolini made the headlines this week after she spit out insults against the American actor Jim Carrey.
The comedian actor best known for his roles in “Dumb and Dumber” and “Liar liar”, had posted a drawing on Twitter depicting Mussolini and his mistress, Claretta Petacci, hanging upside down after their execution in 1945. Carrey added a caption, saying “If you’re wondering what fascism leads to, just ask Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta.”
Alessandra Mussolini, a former model and actress herself, who now serves in the European Parliament representing Central Italy, responded by posting a reply which called Carrey “a bastard”.
Benito Mussolini who established a dictatorial regime in Italy in the 1920s, was the leader of Italy’s National Fascist Party during World War II and a close ally of Adolph Hitler. He was ousted from power in 1943 in the wake of dramatic losses his troops suffered in Europe and Africa, and was subsequently executed in 1945 along with his mistress Claretta Petacci.
Some users commended Carrey’s drawing, telling Alessandra Mussolini that she should not confuse the actor with her “murderous grandfather.” To undermine Carrey, Mussolini also posted a mushroom cloud, asking the actor to “draw this for us.” She was apparently referring to the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945 which killed between 130,000-226,000 people in both cities.
Jim Carrey has not responded to Mussolini yet.
