Lithuanian government announces the murder of his Honorary Consul in Luhansk

The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Luhansk, a city in eastern Ukraine was killed on August 22 by pro-Russian terrorists, according to a tweet posted by the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Linas Linkevicius, which confirmed that the Consul, the Ukrainian businessman Mykola Zelenets was “kidnapped and brutally murdered by the terrorists.”

According to the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine, Peter Vaitiekunas, Mr. Zelenets was kidnapped twelve days before his assassination, with his whereabouts unknown since then.

Mykola Zelenets, 39-year-old from Luhansk region, graduated as a forester and economist, after occupying management positions at different forestry companies, while serving as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania.

After hearing the horrible event, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite , expressed her condolences and said “I’m really surprised by the news. Both myself and the Lithuanian people express our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones”, said the president.

Meanwhile, 262 Russian army convoys – supposed humanitarian – aid entered to Ukrainian territory.
